Jeff and Teri Leicher, Jack’s Diving Locker owners, have prided themselves on providing a family friendly dive center.  They raised both of their kids in and around the dive shop and saw how early education in conservation and respect for the ocean shaped their kids’ lives. In 2020, Jack’s Diving Locker celebrates 38 years of business in the diving industry. They have won many awards over the years for their ocean stewardship and family activities. They have earned the Reader’s Choice Award for the past three years for one of the best Family Friendly Dive Centers, because of their attention to provide families with a plethora of experiences for all ages!

Once In A Lifetime Dolphin And Manta Experiences

Jack’s Diving Locker is one of the only dive operations in Kona that invites kids of all ages on their snorkel and dive trips.  The Dolphin Watch and snorkel trip is a great opportunity for families to introduce the next generation to the ocean’s wonders.  There is something magical about swimming alongside a pod of Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins with your kids and then watching giant bait balls gracefully moving as one unit.  Our patient crew encourages even the most intrepid kid to explore the blue waters.

Once the sun sets, Kona’s world-famous Manta night snorkel is an experience kids and parents alike will be telling their friends about well after the vacation ends.  The nightly ‘ballet’ of the Manta Rays will leave you mesmerized and speechless!

Building A Love And Understanding of the Ocean

 Jack’s Diving Locker’s unique feature is their onsite custom pool.  As young as 6 years old, can be introduced to scuba diving and the thrill of breathing from a scuba tank. JDL offers SASY (Surface Air Snorkeling for Youth), Bubblemaker, and Discover Scuba Diving opportunities for kids with experienced, professional and FUN PADI instructors. You can even snag some photos of this unforgettable event from their viewing window in the deep end of the pool!

For the certified divers in your family, Hawaii’s underwater world offers amazing experiences for all.  Whether you’re swimming through lava arches and looking for endemic critters on our morning Classic 2-tank dive, or mesmerized by the majestic mantas ‘flying’ above your head on the Manta 2-tank afternoon/night dive these family scuba outings will be treasured memories that your family will remember long after your trip to Hawaii.

Award Winning Sea Camps For Youths of All Ages

Jack’s Diving Locker award-winning Sea Camp program is for campers ages 8-13 years old.  The week-long camps have different themes and includes a variety of amazing experiences including a trip to the Hawaiian Monk Seal Hospital, a ride on the Atlantis Submarine, and a chance to have a seahorse curl up around your finger, guided snorkeling adventures, beach clean-ups, a chance to earn their PADI Skin Diver certification, and a Try Scuba experience in the pool!  Sharks & Rays and Dolphins & Whales camps include a trip on one of JDL’s boats where the kids, (and parents), have a chance to see in-person the sea creatures they learned about during the week!

For the young adults in the family, there is the  PADI Seal Team and Master Seal Team camps. Campers participate in daily underwater missions that introduce them to scuba diving and even get to try their scuba skills in the ocean while searching for amazing Kona marine life!  Master Seal Team camp week concludes with an exciting night dive in the pool while they complete their final Aqua Mission.  Junior Open Water and Advanced Open Water camps are also available for kids ready to get scuba certified or take their diving skills to the next level. 

Your whole family can snorkel with dolphins and mantas or diving the unique topography of Kona’s blue waters together.
