Keller Laros, dive instructor at Jack’s Diving Locker, was surprised during the surface interval by PADI Regional Manager, Michael Janssen, with an award from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. Keller did his first manta ray night dive with Jeff Leicher of Jack’s Diving Locker in 1985, the same year he became a PADI instructor. In 1991, he came to work at Jack’s Diving Locker and started taking people on manta ray night dives. He noticed the spot patterns were unique to each manta and started a manta identification catalog. After a decade of keeping track, he co-founded Manta Pacific Research Foundation in 2002 with wife, Wendy and a dedicated group of board members.
PADI Worldwide recognized Keller by giving him a plaque that reads:
“In recognition of your commitment and devotion to the creation of Manta Pacific Research Foundation. For your contribution to the dive industry, community, and divers you have directly impacted as a result of your passion, loyalty, and quality of service and education you provide as a PADI Instructor.”
