Bio: Born and raised in Guatemala, Juan Carlos pursued university studies in agriculture and environmental sciences. But the need for adventure and open spaces made him give up the city life for a backpack. This led him to the Mayan foothills of Northern Guatemala, where he worked in the Eco tourism industry. Horses, caves, rivers and hills allowed him to become tuned into not only the rhythms of nature, but also its demise in the form of deforestation, pollution and human ignorance.
The drive to explore led him in 2005 to the Bay Islands of Honduras, where his life was forever changed. He became a diver.
He has been and Instructor since 2007, and after working in the beautiful waters of Honduras and Belize, his wife’s dream of becoming a Naturopathic Doctor took him to Portland, Oregon, where he worked in landscape restoration, urban reforestation, studied environmental biology and played lots of Capoeira. Five years later, with his now doctor wife and two beautiful kids in tow, this family is now living the Kona dream and he is back in the water doing what he loves most: helping people enjoy the wonders of the sea and creating stewards for the underwater realm.
