PADI Scuba Instructor
PADI Pelagic Magic® Diver Specialty Instructor
PADI Instructor Sarah Matye knows her stuff when it comes to diving and the marine environment. Sarah was first certified in 1999 in California through her Dad’s retired military friend. Her dad was a diver since she was born, so she’d always wanted to learn to dive. Her Dad made her wait untill she was 13 – so that’s what she did for her 13th birthday!
With opportunities to dive in California, Hawaii, Roatan and Turks Caicos, Sarah was inspired to learn more about the ocean and ended up at UC Santa Cruz studying Marine Biology. After graduating, she taught the Underwater Explorers Program at Monterey Bay Aquarium and volunteered as a guide/diver, logging nearly 1000 volunteer hours there. In 2009, she became a Divemaster at Diver Dan’s in the Silicon Valley. In 2010, she became Deep and Wreck certified and was immediately obsessed with deep wreck penetrations.
In May 2013, she moved to Kona to pursue her career as a PADI Scuba Instructor by taking the Instructor Development Course at Jack’s Diving Locker, a PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Resort. She loves to teach scuba diving and exploring the underwater world. She’s also intrigued by the species diversity on the Pelagic Magic® Dive and is a certified PADI Pelagic Magic® Diver Specialty Instructor. She’s also very knowledgeable about manta rays and is actually a certified Manta Naturalist. She regularly guides divers and snorkelers on the world famous Manta Ray Night Dive.
In her spare time, Sarah loves technical decompression dives – even down to 165′ with the use of Nitrox blends to 100%. She also loves to ride her motorcycle, cook and meet new people.
