Bio: Shannon Shea was actually born in Dubai and grew up in Sauda, Arabia. She first got certified as a Junior Open Water Diver in 1991. Both her parents and her older brother were divers, and in addition to the usual childhood family trips to Disneyland and the Grand Canyon, there were also trips to the Red Sea, Micronesia, and the Great Barrier Reef. Shannon attended Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut during her high school years and graduated from Georgetown in Washington, D.C. with a degree in Linguistics. After pursuing careers that included teaching English in Japan and working for an ambulance company in Las Vegas, Shannon became a Divemaster in April 2010 while working for a charter operator out of Cairns, Australia. When her Australian visa expired, she came to the Big Island to pursue a career in diving. She became a PADI Instructor in 2010, PADI IDC Staff Instructor in 2012, PADI Master Instructor in 2015 and PADI Course Director in 2016! Course Directors are instructor trainers and this is the highest rating in recreational scuba diving.
